Hemyock Castle is a privately owned ruined 14th-century castle in the village of Hemyock, Devon, England. It was built by Sir William Asthorpe after 1380 to a quadrangular design around a much older manor house or "court." The exterior walls of the castle were rendered and lime-washed. It would have been visually impressive. By the 16th century parts may have fallen into ruin, although enough remained for it to be used during the English Civil War in the mid-17th century. Subsequently, the defences were largely pulled down and the site was converted into a farm. In the 21st century the site is occupied by the fragments of the original castle; and Castle House, the older manor house within the site which has been remodelled several times over the centuries. Castle House and several of the former outbuildings are now private houses. The whole site is a privately owned, residential site. There are regular public open days between Easter and September.
